TORONTO’S PACER PURGE THEIR DEMONS

JUNE 26, 2019—TORONTO, ON. Toronto rockers Pacer are set to release their new single “Rapture” on all major streaming platforms on July 3, 2019. The stand-alone single was conceived in the wake of a psychotic episode from lead vocalist and guitarist Shawn Kosmo.

“Rapture” is a song about psychosis and mental health, but instead of channeling the weight of the topic, the group seeks to tap into their exuberant side to purge the demons. The song sheds the stigma of discussing mental health by channeling that energy in the studio and on stage. Shawn’s lived experiences with mental health disorders has challenged him to find a way to explore new avenues for coping with difficult subjects. If he can’t talk about them, then he’ll sing about them at the top of his lungs.

With bassist Dan Pearce and drummer Evan Matthews at Shawn’s side, Pacer sheds the stigma of discussing mental health channeling that energy into explosive, frenetic energy in the studio and on stage. As a band with a queer-identifying frontman, Pacer also believes that the future of rock and roll is bright for those who aren’t straight or gender conforming. They rock hard, and they rock fast. Drawing from common inspirations of 80’s college rock, 70’s proto-punk, and bands like The Replacements and The Pixies, Pacer aims for the sky and refuses to turn back. No matter what kind of show they play—whether at the Horseshoe or house venue—Pacer leaves everything they have on the stage. Rock and roll is the ultimate cure and primal release, and “Rapture” captures the essence of this sentiment with high-flying riffs and untethered energy.
